Dating with children

There must have been many times you must have thought, who would date someone with two kids and a few dogs or cats in tow. Well you would be surprised to find out that there are people who would be delighted to date someone who already has a family or may have a child or two of their own.
You need to start looking at yourself as more than just a parent but an attractive individual with lots to offer someone of the opposite sex. You may need to organize your time a bit more to spend time with your kids and your date, but it is definitely doable.
Of course you need to take care of your kids. Especially if they are teenagers it could be difficult. But let me tell you something now that is very important… ‘You are in full control.’ Do not let your children dictate who you see and who you don’t. Do not give them that sort of power over you. You do need to look out of your children and their needs, but if you look after yourself and are happy with your relationship then your children will see that it will benefit them as well. That is what is most important here. Having a fun and loving relationship with your new partner and in time your kids will grow to love him/her.
By taking care of yourself and your needs, you are in effect teaching your kids to do the same for themselves. If they are having problems, it is also best to address them and try to understand why your child/teenager may be having difficulties with you dating. Often more than not, it is because they are scared of losing you. So keep that in mind when talking to them.
You may want to keep your dating secret from your children but this once again gives them power over you, because you are ashamed of letting it be know you are dating. You need to be upfront about what you want from dating members of the opposite sex and also be brutally honest with your children. You need to send potential dates the message you are a package deal and be proud of it. In the end you deserve happiness, so take the chance and date again. Do not let something like having kids hold you back from your happiness.
